Vic Firth Virtuoso M212 Medium Marimba Mallets

The M212’s navy yarn heads and birch shafts.
The M212’s navy yarn heads and birch shafts.

When to choose it

Start with the M212 when the instrument is marimba and you need a general medium head for a part that moves around the keyboard. The head uses navy yarn. Compare the resulting attack in the registers you actually play rather than using another series’ medium rating as a direct equivalence.

Vic Firth lists a 17-inch length and birch handles. Compare that length with your usual hand position and reach if you are changing mallets. A short poly xylophone mallet may feel and sound quite different even though both are sold as keyboard mallets. Follow the bar maker’s guidance before crossing between instruments.
