Vic Firth American Classic 5B Wood Tip

When to choose it
If your American Classic 5A reaches comfortably but feels slim in the hand, try the 5B for more grip at the same length. Its 0.595-inch diameter is 0.030 inches wider than the 5A. The published 16-inch length and medium taper stay the same, making this a useful comparison if grip is what you want to change.
The hickory shaft and wood teardrop tip keep this in the same family. If the problem is reaching a cymbal, compare a longer model instead of choosing solely by thickness. If you already use a 5B and want to change the contact on the ride, look for the model number of the nylon sibling.

Questions about this accessory
Will it reach farther than the standard 5A?
Both are 16 inches long. The change is the 5B’s wider grip. Compare the longer X5B if you specifically need more reach.
Can I order a 5B with nylon tips?
Vic Firth uses 5BN for the nylon version. Choose by code if you are replacing your usual pair.
What should I check if I already use a 5B from another brand?
Compare your stick’s actual diameter and length. A 5B label alone does not give either dimension.
